The D-60 C provides the highest performance of the Discreet series. It has the midrange driver closely below the tweeter, as well as a very powerful midrange driver and two woofers. The tweeter/midrange part and the woofer part have to be driven by their own amplifier channel using an active, digital crossover in the AV processor. This ensures that the frequency split and the phase relationship between midrange and bass are done in the best way, avoiding the typical issues in phase, sound dispersion, and frequency response that can be found in many conventional center speakers.

The D-60 has a frequency range rolling off below 80 Hz and therefore requires a subwoofer to reproduce the full range of music, TV and movie recordings. Movie soundtracks contain an LFE signal for the lowest frequencies, which requires a dedicated subwoofer, for example the BW-20.

The D-60 has a higher sensitivity, better power handling, and reaches a higher SPL. The D-500 is a so-called full-range speaker with one midrange/bass driver and two passive radiators covering the low frequencies, allowing a gentle roll off below 50Hz. The D-60 models already roll off below 80Hz and therefore require an extra woofer for the complete reproduction of music and movie soundtracks including the LFE.
